In line with the commitments of the Ten Year Strategy from the Government, the Nursery
Education Grant covers 38 weeks of the year, (Normal school Term-times).
The NEG covers 12.5 hours per week over 5 sessions for the duration of 2 and a half hours.
The general criterion as set out in the NEG Code of Practice is as follows:
A child born on or between Will become eligible for a free place from
1st April and 31st August 1st September following their third birthday
1st September and 31st December 1st January following their third birthday
1st January and 31st March 1st April following their third birthday
Section 7.2 of A code of Practice on the provision of Free Nursery Education Places for Three –
and Four – Year Olds, Surestart February 2006 states
‘These dates are consistent with those used for determining the commencement of compulsory
education and are designed to ensure that every child is able to access two years of free parttime
education before reaching compulsory school age. However, actual starting dates may vary
in line with locally determined term dates. In practice, depending on local arrangements for
admission to school, many children start full time education in school reception classes before
reaching compulsory school age.’
King’s Day Nursery School offer prescribed NEG sessions for eligible children, these sessions
are:
9.15 – 11.45 or 1.30 – 4.00
These sessions can be incorporated into longer sessions for which there will be a charge at the
hourly rate.
