Developmental Framework.

The King’s Day Nursery School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a statutory
framework for all childcare settings registered with OfSTED. The Early Years Foundation
Stage (EYFS) became statutory on September the 1st 2008.

The framework covers 4 themes which are:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development.

Each one of the 4 themes have a principle attached to it which the guides the 4 commitments to
each theme which guides our work with the children.
The 4 themes and their commitments are:

The last commitment, Areas of Learning and Development is split up again into the 6 areas of
learning which are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the world
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

It is important to remember that all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage are interlinked with children’s overall development and therefore should not be looked at individually.
At King’s Day Nursery School in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, plan from the child using the planning cycle:

  • Observe the child
  • Assess the observation
  • Plan Activity

For further explanation of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) please contact the nursery
