Nicaragua is a country in Central America, between the Pacific Ocean on the west and the Caribbean sea on the east. It is one of the poorest countries in the Americas and among the poorest in the western hemisphere. Roughly 50% of the population live in poverty, 19% live in extreme poverty and almost half of the population lacks access to safe water. Illiteracy remains high, and there is a whole generation that was unable to attend school or saw its education interrupted by the civil war some 30 years ago.
King’s have been supporting SIFT, a Christian charity based in the UK for some years.
